This is the No Liquid Lock, an important feature that prevents overheating. For a fast reset method, please take a look at the article text.
The Nicovape® Q device constantly monitors the cartridge to ensure that enough e-liquid is flowing to the atomiser component to generate the aerosol safely.
If there is not enough liquid, the device locks down and alerts you by vibrating twice and flashing the red LED. We call this the "No-Liquid Lock". You cannot take another puff until you reset the device (see How to do the quick reset below).
This technology is an important safety feature, and while it may be unfamiliar to you and takes a little getting used to, we want to assure you that everything is working correctly.
What do I do when this happens?
If the cartridge is empty, remove it from the device and replace it with a new cartridge. Don't reset and continue puffing, or you may experience a burnt taste.
If the cartridge still contains liquid, you can quickly reset the device and carry on using it.
How to do the quick reset
- Press your thumb against the side of its top while holding the device in the same hand, as shown below. You're only moving the cartridge slightly, and you'll feel when it doesn't want to go further.

2. Reconnect the cartridge by moving the top back into alignment with your thumb.

Why is this happening on a new cartridge or partway through a cartridge that still contains liquid?
The No-Liquid Lock occasionally engages on a new cartridge and may repeat several times, requiring a quick reset each time. This is because the liquid can take a little time before it re-saturates after a puff on a new cartridge.
The No-Liquid Lock may also engage if you hold the device in a way that prevents the liquid from re-saturating between puffs. This could happen because, for example, you are lying down. You can prevent this by holding the device upright (cartridge up) between puffs.
Why does Nicovape® Q need a No-Liquid Lock?
Think of the no-liquid detection system as being like a circuit breaker in a house.
Just as a circuit breaker is designed to automatically cut off electrical power to prevent damage or fire due to overloaded or short-circuited wiring, Nicovape® Q's no-liquid system automatically stops the device from operating when there's insufficient liquid, preventing the atomiser from burning out.
This is essential because using an atomiser without enough liquid can cause it to overheat, produce a foul aerosol, and potentially ruin the cartridge.
